Tibet (China)
Known as the roof of the world, Tibet is the ultimate destination for the adventure seekers to experience enchantment and tantalizing mystery of a lifetime. It is an autonomous region of the of the People’s Republic of China. After many years of isolation, Tibet has cautiously opened up its door for western travelers. Tibet is bordered with Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and India. Its capital is Lhasa, which is very popular for two world heritage sites – the Potala Palace and Norbulingka, both were at one time the residences of the Dalai Lama. Just 5 kilometers away from Lhasa is Tibet’s largest monastery called the Drepung Monastery and this monastery Gelugpa sect of Buddhism, the other two being Ganden and Sera.
It is the mystic land of ancient Buddhist culture, awesome landscapes, artistic monasteries, exotic cities, hidden valleys and centuries-old caravan trails. Sprawled over the landscape of 1.2 square kilometers with an average altitude of over 3000m and huddled in the rain-shadow behind the mass range of the northern Himalaya.
