Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trekking

Trekking to Langtang Gosaikunda Lake is one of the least crowded and the most classic in Nepal. We can easily reach to the starting point- of the trek – Syabrubesi by road from Kathmandu in a day’s drive. We drive down to Trishuli Bajaar and then continue uphill  drive to Syabrubesi. We stay overnight at lodge in Syabrubesi and next day morning we begin our trek. Trekking to this region offers the opportunity to explore Tamang village, the sacred lake of Gosainkunda and the spectacular view of Langtang Lirung (7,245m), Ganesh Himal (7,146m) and Dorje Lhakpa (6,990m) peaks. In the spring you will see blooming of rhododendron forest while passing through the Langtang national park. The landscapes we walk through are extremely varied: rice-terraces, gigantic rhododendron, pine forest, and in the highest altitude, a rock and shrub wilderness while enjoying the fascinating astounding views of the majestic Himalayas.

Exploring Gosainkunda Lake is once in a lifetime experience for the trekker. Gosainkunda, mostly regarded as a sacred lake is as a major pilgrimage spot for both Hindus and Buddhists. The route from the Langtang valley up to Gosainkunda is full of natural and cultural diversity which attract many tourists. According to Hindu religious mythology, Gosainkunda Lake is said to have been created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishul (trident) into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his burning throat after swallowing poison which was believed to have threatened to destroy the whole world. There are 108 kundas (lakes) in Gosainkunda area. Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, Surya Kunda and Gosaikunda are the famous and visible while walking along the routes. Every year, these sacred places are visited by thousands of Hindu pilgrims especially in the month of August. The best season for this trekking is autumn and spring.
