Mera Peak Climbing (19 Days)

Mera Peak (6,461m/21,216ft) is situated at the end of the serene and remote Hinku valley which is rarely visited by trekkers. There are many routes to Mera some of them are easy and some require to cross high and challenging passes. South ridge facing East and North is considered quite challenging. Northeast ridge is really difficult one. West face and north-west ridge is possible to climb but access to Mera via West glacier (Khare glacier) is much difficult. Climbing expedition to Mera Peak is truly rewarding. One has to tread on off the beaten trail, cross the Hinku valley and spend overnight in rarely visited villages at tea houses, spending most of the time high above the main trail. During the trek it is required to spend 2 extra days for rest and acclimatization to enjoy the stunning scenery and unique Hinku valley.

Every year more than 1000 climbers from different countries successfully scaled ‘Mera Peak’. They believe that they have scaled the highest ‘Trekking Peak’ in the Nepalese Himalayas. We organize over 15 Mera Peak expeditions every year and have achieved 100% success rate on our climbs. Our goal is to get our clients safely to the summit and back to Kathmandu.

Pioneer Adventure representative will come to receive the Mera peak climbing group members at the Tribhuvan International airport and transfer to the pre-booked hotel. Make sure to check a billboard with the name of Pioneer Adventure at the exit gate of the airport. Today is simply an arrival day, so there is no organized activity. One can take free time to relax or just walk around leisurely.

Today we will prepare all necessary permits including Mera peak climbing and do some shopping.  A pre-departure meeting will be held in the evening at the hotel lobby for a briefing on Mera peak climbing and introducing to our trekking/climbing guide. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

An early morning, we will transfer all the members to the Kathmandu domestic airport to board the flight to Lukla. It will be a short scenic mountain flight which will take about 35 minutes. As we land at Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, we will hold on a bit as our porters manage to carry the baggage up to Paiya. The guide will serve a cup of hot tea to all the members at the local lodge in Lukla. Then, we will begin the trek to Paiya village. During the trek, you can explore the local areas and observe the traditional Sherpa lifestyle. The trail is less frequented than the other main trails of the Everest region. It will be a short and enjoyable trek on the southern side of Lukla. Overnight at lodge

Today we will head south over a river and from there winds up along a hill before descending to the Khare Khola River. While gently descending, you will enjoy the eye-catching the beauty of mountains and finally enter the Pangkongma village. Today's trekking journey will be long and hectic but we assure you that the scenic beauty of the final destination will attract you. On this day, you will be traveling all the way to an overwhelming rough, rocky and barren terrain. It will be one of the finest hikes as you will get extremely close to the snow line with commanding views all around. Just to remind you that you need to place your steps carefully as the trail is quite uneven. After an hour-long hike, you will get to a base of another staircase which is long and tiring to walk on. Then we continue our hike again on a gradual descent on a rugged and barren trail. The splendid sights of the surrounding mountains and the lakes you come across on the way will amaze you. We will spend a relaxing time at Chunbu Kharka amidst the serene and beautiful mountain valley. Overnight at Camp

After breakfast, we continue our trek towards the north on the main trail to Mera Peak. Today's walk is equally tiring as well. The first half of the trek is on an uphill trail to the Panch Pokhari viewpoint from where you can enjoy some amazing views of the mountains. We will follow the rocky trail from here into the tree line and continue through the forests before coming out on the valley floor. The trail further runs in and out of the forests before finally reaching a small wooden bridge that marks our entry in Kothe. Here we will spend some time out to appreciate the views from the camping site. Overnight at Camp

From this day onward, we will gradually climb up with an increase in altitude and keep moving along the ridge of the Hinku river through the shadow of Mera Peak. On the way, we pass a 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa where we will see Mera Peak scripted on the rock along with the direction of the route to Mera. A mixture of rocks and pastures all through the trail will give you a different kind of trekking experience.  After a short walk, we will reach Thagnak for the overnight stay in camp. Tangnag is a summer grazing area and here you will be quite amazed at the beautiful setting of the surroundings. Overnight at Camp

A well- worth rest day for acclimatization! Today's hike will reward you with some brilliant sights all throughout the journey. As we start our hike through the valley floor, the stunning sights of the high-altitude peaks will lure you. This is undoubtedly one of the finest Himalayan valleys and along the journey; you will pass some of the gorgeous lakes and fantastic glaciers. Finally, you will reach the sparkling Black Mera that rises right out of this valley floor with all grandeur and gravity. Overnight at Camp

Today we will have a great chance to explore and see the beauty of this village. We have planned this acclimatization day so that you can relax and prepare for the thrilling climb up ahead. Tough days are waiting ahead for you so you need to relax your muscles before proceeding. Besides, you will also do a short trek to a top of a hill outside of the village and feast the heart-touching sight of the grand Mera Peak. Be prepared to face the sheer size and elegance of the peak, the glacier that crawls out of the mountains and the beautiful glaciated valley. As Khare is becoming more popular for being the resting place of the trekkers, you get the chance to enjoy the fun with campfires and unlimited interactions with the locals.

Today we will be trekking our way to the High Camp at 5800 m. The walk starts on an easy graded snow slope on the same glacier. From here we get to an area full of crevasses and it is of utmost importance that you approach every step very carefully. The High Camp is at a close distance from here and you will have a gentle climb to the destination. Moreover, in the walk today you will get glimpses of the highest peaks like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu. A trail full of Himalayan treasures finally end behind a rocky section at the Mera Peak High Camp. Give your body the much-needed rest as you will have to climb to the summit the next day

After being properly equipped and fully acclimatized we start early morning to reach the Mera summit. Strong winds after midday can create obstacles to reach the summit. We start around 2 AM to climb up the glacier and onto a ridge. Following the footsteps and guidance of our experienced climbing guide, all the team members will head towards the Mera Peak summit. Once we reach the top you will be  rewarded with magnificent views of five spectacular 8000-meter peaks – Everest (8,848m) Cho Oyu (8,201m) Makalu (8,463m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m), as well as Nuptse (7,855m), and Chamlang (7,319m) After spending  some quality time at the Mera Peak summit, we will descend following the same route and head back to reach Khare overnight at Camp.

After achieving a great success of the expedition to Mera Peak, we retrace our steps back to Kothe in the Hinku valley. On the way, we stop for lunch at Thaknak and continue our trek to Kothe for overnight stay. We will enjoy the evening with local wines or whatever you want to relax at the camp.

We take the shorter route towards Lukla and after crossing a few ridges we will get to our stop at Zattre la. We climb a few hundred meters to the Zatrwa La top and it will be our last climb of the trek

After breakfast, we start our last day trek. We gently descend to Lukla village where we conclude our trekking part. In the evening we enjoy with our crew at the last dinner in the mountain and overnight stay at teahouse

Normally we take the morning flight to Kathmandu. Sometimes the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason beyond our control. Anyway, we will fly back to Kathmandu and your guide will transfer you to the same hotel where you stayed before. You may have time to relax after a long journey.
